What Do We Do?

Bao by Kaya was founded in 2014 and quickly established itself as a popular street food vendor in NYC. We specialize in Taiwanese cuisine, and our signature is the Gua Bao! Popular in Taiwan, the Gua Bao is a white bun with a fluffy texture that is served steamy and fresh with multiple meat options.

For bringing these dishes to NYC, our founders were nominated for the Vendy Awards (the Oscars for street food!), and became one of the finalists for the Rookie of the Year 2015!

We are highly honored to be a part of such a prestigious platform. It motivates us to bring even better taste to our customers. Continuing on our success, we have also become regular food vendors for UrbanSpace, the Winter Village at Bryant Park, Governor’s Island, and the Hester Street Fair.

Our Story

No business can be established without true determination, dedication, and passion. Bao by Kaya is no different. Our founders started off in the BIG four audit firms in New York before starting the business in 2014. Eventually, both quit to follow their dreams with this company, bringing Bao by Kaya to new levels of success and competing with the best food stands around the city.

Bao by Kaya’s inspiration comes from the founders’ parents, who had opened dim sum restaurants in Hong Kong in the 1990s. This instilled a deep passion for Asian food in the founders, allowing for Bao by Kaya to reach its full potential.
